Become an Active Citizen
Social Leadership and Training Programme Launching September 2018
Social Leadership and Training Programme Launching September 2018
Active Citizens is the Britsh Council flagship Social Leadership and Training programme. The programme brings together people with different beliefs and perspectives to learn from and share with each other. It trains participants in the skills and knowledge needed to lead social change in their communities.
The Active Citizens programme is designed for individuals, groups and teams who want to develop themselves and make a difference in their community.
This programme is for people in Scotland and the social action projects will focus on reducing plastic waste.
The Active Citizens learning experience is wonderfully unique. It is underpinned by ‘in person’ delivery with not an e-learning module or online course in sight!
It is made up of a blend of expertly facilitated group workshops alongside virtual sessions using the video conferencing service Zoom. Participants will also be provided with the opportunity to work 1:1 with their very own professional coach.
The Active Citizens programme also creates opportunities for a number of participants to take part in International Study Visits. Again fully funded, it is the experience of a lifetime to see social action in other cultures and meet up with Active Citizens from across the world.
We’re looking forward to hosting our very own group of international Active Citizens and sharing the incredible social activity here in Scotland.
In our experience, individuals and organisations are continually striving to create opportunities for impactful personal development. The Active Citizens learning journey encapsulates skills development that accelerates performance today and equips people for the future.
We are recruiting 30 change makers from across Scotland to join the programme. The programme is fully funded and free to participants. To get the most out of the experience we would like participants to:
Active Citizens is structured around a learning journey, referred to as ‘the river’, which starts building self-awareness and confidence and culminates in the planning and delivery of social action.
Understanding ourselves: improving self-awareness and confidence; valuing different perspectives.
Building relationships with others: learning how to use dialogue as a tool for building empathy, trust and understanding.
Improving understanding of communities: developing an understanding of how the we ‘works’.
Planning a social action project in the community: this could be something new or it could build on an existing initiative.
Know You More exists to equip young people with the skills, confidence and belief to make their impact in the World and we are a proud supporter of Scotland’s Year of Young People 2018. The initiative has highlighted this generations appetite for social change and their ability to make it happen.
We will be committing 50% of places on the Active Citizens programme to 18 to 30-year-olds and creating a diverse, intergenerational community that can champion social action in Scotland.
Workshops will be held in the amazing city of Dundee!
